Reading , as best we can , we have learned that US. domestic economic reports, have it that Foreclosure Sales in the last two years , are at an all time high in North America, standing at over 8,000,000+ Homes Lost In The USA for 2007 & 2008 combined and year 2009, Promises to be another bumper year, of losses with at least 4,000,000+ projected to come and in 2010 the same number are projected , yet another 4+ Million. There will not be an easy solution to all this . Not only does this ruin the credit of the party, that looses their home, but many can not even rent a place and may loose their vehicle insurance too or even their ability to acquire a new job, simply due to the credit ding. This sting will last , at least 2 to 7+ years afterwards or longer . Homeless and often without a job and then, put outside the laws of the road, creates what could be the modern version of dislodging indigenous people so new settlers can come in. We call this the second North American Trail Of Tears !

So many very nice people, have called us, to ask for information on how to build with Earth . They don't have funds for consultation or classes and it is not possible to personally speak to everyone, or even any further, to insert that detail of data here, on these web pages.

We need a wine cellar 20 feet deep for a commercial winery. Can Rammed Earth Structures Be The Answer To Our Cost & Temperature Problems ?

Yes, U shapes such as in Earthship construction, cut into and along a slope will provide the caves required for your storage depth and tires can be the walls. Some additional buttressing, may also be required as comes from dome construction due to heights . The shell wall extending to the roof makes all stronger if constructed in round shapes. Domes are 20 times as strong as flat roofs !

Why do you use Rammed Earth Adobe Blocks and Garbage ( bottles, soda cans, used tires, Etc. ) instead of cement blocks as the main material for most underground buildings?

Well, their free, for 1 really good reason. Those same materials are easily handled by most any person of average strength so no strained backs due to lifting 75 pound cement blocks. There is the ability to not use anymore cement than is mandatory , due to the use of these materials also and this lessens the total project cost.

How can " I " learn to build with these materials affordably ?

Where is the best location to build; high on a hill , on flat lands or in a low spot in the landscape ?

High up on a hill and digging out a cove, to construct into, is a fine plan to follow. Flat land and the common subdivision lots, that are pre-graded are fine, as long as they were compacted properly. After all , your building something, that weighs much more than conventional structures and you would not want, a sinking foundation to develop. Due to moisture collecting , in low lands, stay away from these spots . They will perhaps, be better areas for ponds .

Our business needs a loading dock. Can you build us one with Rammed Earth ?

Yes, Tires will retain your soil and a concrete slab can be slightly counter levered to protect the sides and provide bumper guarding areas.

What About Retaining Walls, and swiming pools Can They Be Constructed Of Rammed Earth ?

Yes, just like loading docks , tires make up your walls , they can be smoothed and finished and water resistant through proper drainage and shielding of the wall.

How To Create Your Own Electricity Off Or On Grid

Dear Friend,

So your ready to go off grid , great thinking ! The way the worlds prices go up, 10 years from now or perhaps much less, you will pay 3 times today's price for everything , including grid power and the equipment to create power with. The making of home electrical power is a simple thing . You , me and anyone else can do it. The majority of the time people make it all sound like a mystery story , as they want you buying from them . The Government, gives many of the same mystery credence as it wants you to constantly pay taxes on what you have, let alone use or consume; so they perpetuate the myths of difficulty in storage and creation & scream inspections required for your own safety. All the while I think they hope, You might not want to try after all that. At least that’s been the drift we have received in conversations past.

Electricity is made when you pass magnets over coils of wire. You should do it safely but, it does not cost much to be safe ; if they can do it , you can do it too. The questions are how much can you afford to make and how much do you need and then how much can you afford, to store . Electric power generators can be built by you ( we sell kits , parts & consultation ) or systems can be purchased and installed , ready to go, ( perhaps a better choice ). Storage today, means flooded - lead acid , batteries for the majority, of all uses. Also, your equipment requirements will very, with the situation.

Think of it this way :

1 Your total power needs, are X

2 Your storage, will be X

3 Your extra demands, on your system, from air conditioners , appliances or large unexpected loads, may be X

4 Your equipment required, to do that job, will be X

Now add , any amps of power lost by power conversions ; for example AC to DC & back again + wire losses , battery storage & any casual losses, and you now have a pretty good idea , of the size of the total system potentiality you will need. If you can make the power required, for all day use, in a few hours , you just need to store it and then replace it tomorrow, or make it as you use it. You have choices of, all 12 DC volt systems like a car or a multiples of 12 volts DC like 24, 36, 48, 72 volts DC and so on . You will most likely want a 48 volt DC system ,converted to a minimum of 240 volt AC supply, as AC is required for most of your least expensive major home electric appliances .You need to figure your off grid system requirements and then purchase the equipment, to match those numbers.

Your Equipment choices are endless but 5 are the primary alternatives :

1 A Fuel Driven Generator

2 Wind Turbines

3 Solar PV Panels & Solar Thermal

4 Hydroelectric

5. Human or Animal Power ( slow but effective )

We and several other companies can select

all this for you but, if I can do it - you can do it too. A power survey is not that difficult and you will just want the best equipment to be a part of your new system . Start perhaps with the power bill, you got this month & the last 11 before that , to figure what your averages are. Then, by conserving energy , through the selection of low wattage consumption lighting and selecting energy efficient appliances , you will make a big differences , in your present requirements. You can then adjust upwardly, as required in storage & production choices . If this is a new building or your remodeling, you should consider construction of thermally efficient structures and solar heating, as a better choice, than conventional stick built , houses and total electric houses . A stick built house, is just a big old air bag. What happens when you let the air out of the house every 60 minutes, as in proper venation ? Well, You guessed it , the temperatures change, to the new air coming in. Mostly, that's delivered from an appliance called an air handler. Then, The Cash Register Rings over At The Power Company - Again. If your house Walls, Floors & Roof are constructed of thermal mass materials, you don't loose comfort when the vents exchange stale air. Temperatures, stay about the same year round. In these thermal mass structures. In the Southeastern USA your going to need Air Conditioners, because of the humidity. The building will cost less to operate , when made from thermal mass materials , than any stick built air bag ever could . GET STARTED TODAY CHANGING TO SOLAR THERMAL.

Now based upon what was reviled in the power survey
of your needs the equipment package is chosen.

Your prime mover generation device must be chosen, plus back ups. What's your fuel ? What about the back up device fuel ?

Then If Your Using the grid as your battery, its a poor substitute for your own complete battery system , as that your going to be a small producer and the public power company only wants to give you about .04 cents today , for .13 cents worth of power delivered, back in their system. Not a fair trade practice in our opinion ; but, the Public Service Commission ( PSC ) , lets them get away with this. If your selling power to the grid, then this discounted tradeoff, will not give you much to look forward to. In the next 5 years, grid cost parity to solar cost is said to be coming to an even point - Well, we will see. For now, take advantage of Solar panel sales that we have here on our web site . Then work on your other power creation system parts . See our AC alternators above and all the other equipment you may need is also available.

Attempt to design your battery storage building to hold all the equipment in 1 place and build it like a faraday cage, so as to protect the equipment inside from future EMP strikes, ( that's coming in our life time ) . Because the DC you create, will not have to travel far to be stored if batteries are close to the generators your losses will be lower, DC doesn't travel well. If your generator is making AC, you will need to rectify it ( an inexpensive process), or rewire the generator/alternator to deliver some DC for your battery storage and then re-invert that battery power for later use. Your AC inverted power, can then travel to the house through normal sized entrance cable, to some breaker box .

There are 3 types of Inverters:

1 True Sine Wave just like the grid and

2 Modified Sine Wave and the better choice

3 Modified Pulse - Sine Wave is our favorite.

If you have grid power available, now you will need an automatic switcher box , to stop the grid feed, when your delivering your own power to your home breaker box . This is so, your not interfering with the grid system. Explosions happen, and great big fires, when you combine power incorrectly. If you wish, you can put in a separate breaker box, for just your off grid use . The power you make is then directed to the select appliances through this new box and you skip inter connections, all together. Just be sure and have it properly wired, just like the other breaker box, with separate ground connections , for your new system and don't have the same appliances or "loads" wired to the 2 breaker boxes at the same time; choose one supply or the other only . If you use the automatic switcher box method , the main breaker box is fed from your power & the grid and chosen based upon loads so when you not delivering power to home, the grid system can take over, at the present day cost of about 13 cents a kWh. Controllers & battery banks must be properly sized and dump loads to divert excess power away from the batteries , when too much is made also.

This is not everything yet but, you have enough information to be dangerous and to get started.

CONSTRUCTION DATA POLL INFO REQUEST

Nationally across America , building materials use restrictions, mostly on local levels, often stops alternative construction practices, due to governmental employee's lack of education and code restrictions. The Universal building code allows the proper use of these materials and methods but, problems do arise.

As an on going effort to spur development of self sustainable construction , for those people in dire need today, of replacement housing - Our Company : Georgia Adobe Rammed Earth & Renewable Energy ( georgiaadobe.com ) is asking for your help, of data additions, of the locations within the continental United States, where you are sure, that the county does not have building permits, construction inspections & zoning code laws on their books , that will then stop some person from using alternative practices and materials. Where cities can supersede the counties authority and have no restrictions, please add these too, as additional good locations to build at.

This will then give all, a data base to begin a search of locations, to build Earthships, Rammed Earth & Cob buildings at. We will start off the data addition ourselves, with 1 Georgia County , that we are very familiar with and have built within. The requested form that should be submitted is below.
